A handsome, small deciduous shrub bearing clusters of juicy, strong flavoured berries during summer. The fruit contains high amounts of vitamin C and E. Currants are winter hardy and will grow in most areas. For best results, feed heavily in the first few years to encourage rapid growth.



Use


Eat fresh or use in juice, juice components, jelly, ham and specialty products such as candies and liqueurs. These attractive plants are used as a small hedge around vegetable gardens. Click a recipe below.



Care


Prefers organic matter, and mulch to retain soil water and keep the soil cool. Prune heavily during the winter to remove older and less productive wood. Leave shoots of approx. 10cm to bear the following seasons crop. Full Sun Height to 1.5M
