

Olives are great evergreen trees with attractive silver-grey foliage and grey trunk which becomes gnarled and dark with age. It has a large number of cream-white flowers.
The olive tree has been grown for many years as a symbol of peace and happiness. It is grown for its fruits, oil and timber. Its foliage make it a very attractive specimen in containers for courtyard areas.
Olives require full sun, and are tolerant of a wide range of well drained soils, will tolerate a coastal position, drought and light frost. Olives will not tolerate waterlogged soil. Although olives are drought tolerant, there require watering during the flowering period and fruit development. Apply a fertilizer high in nitrogen in autumn and spring.
