What do we do?

Humphris Nursery Pty Ltd has come such a long way in its first 103 years. Established by Ern Bennett in 1879, Humphris Nursery has been cared for by three generations of the Humphris family. Still family owned and operated the large production nursery, located in Mooroolbark Victoria, remains committed to providing customers with an extensive range of quality plants, flexible services and nationwide delivery.


More than ever, the people at Humphris Nursery understand that it is not enough to simply grow a high quality plant. Each family and staff member knows that customers are looking for suppliers who are able to evolve with them. Part of the equation is having a strong history and sense of tradition, but equally important is sourcing and growing innovative, cutting-edge plants that lead the way into the next era in greenlife.

At Humphris Nursery we lead the way with our production systems and values. Our network of licensing agreements allows us to grow the very best in the new wave of PBR plants being bred all around the world as well as out commitment to undertaking our own research and development. In addition, we have been involved in the Nursery Industry Accreditations Scheme Australia (NIASA) since its inception.


We grow over 400 separate lines on 10 hectares of land, we have our own propagation facility and sell over 1.5 million plants across Australia annually.


One very important aspect of the way we conduct business is our adherence to sustainable production systems. As we move through this century water could become a limiting factor if not addressed right now, We have incorporated our water re-use and recycling facilities with wetlands that are environmentally friendly and economically viable.


We are proud of our achievements so far and have our sights set firmly on maintaining the enthusiasm for plants and building stronger relationships with our customers into the future.


growing an environmentally sound product


Introducing an industry initiative, our new 100% biodegradable pot! This exciting new product to be introduced into our plants retail presentation helps with our goal of sustainable production. The 100% biodegradable pot, branded the 'Comp Pot', has been independently tested to prove that there is NO plastic in the product, and not only is it, but it is too.


The pot is made from a sustainable natural organic bamboo source, and Synthetic Hydrocarbon based materials added. The strong and sturdy product has a shelf life of 24 months, and once the pot has been put into the compost bin, it will compost completely in approximately six months time.


Our Humphris Nursery “Garden Assets®” range is characterised by colorful and distinctive labels that showcase the plant and our logo for maximum effect in store. The labels feature the common name which is easily recognised and an attractive photo of the plant at its best. On the back of all labels we provide detailed information outlining growing conditions and special care. Our labels do not blend in with the plant and are raised above the pot on pro-clips for maximum retail effect as the heightened label is eye-catching and easily viewed.
